Volume 4, March 2011, Issue #7
Editor: Khouzhan Phoenix Fleurette-Beauchamp-Corfield
Greetings and Happy St. Patrick's Day and kick off of our Sobo Wealth and Security Ritual days! If you haven't gotten in your letter yet to be included in the Sobo Ritual - no worries! We will be continuing this ritual throughout the month of March. Read all about it below.
Personally, I love St. Patrick's Day. Where I live now in Albuquerque, New Mexico, it isn't such a big holiday. In New Orleans, though, where I am from, it is a surprisingly big holiday! There is a parade where they throw cabbages, onions, and potatoes from floats - if you are lucky enough, you can catch the ingredients to go home and make a full meal! :-) Most of the watering establishments down there have lots of green beer and, of course, there are tons of beads to be thrown and caught (with or without lifting your shirt!), and lots of good food!
My favorite Irish recipe of the day - quick and easy Irish soda bread. I love to make this bread because it doesn't involve a lot of kneading and rising time - in fact, it doesn't require any rising time! You probably have most of the ingredients in your kitchen already, so you can whip up a batch!
• 4 cups all-purpose flour
• 1/4 cup white sugar
• 1 teaspoon baking soda
• 2 teaspoons baking powder
• 1 teaspoon salt • 2 eggs
• 1 1/4 cups buttermilk (if you don't have buttermilk, you can substitute sour cream or make your own buttermilk by adding two teaspoons of vinegar to 1 1/4 cups of milk and let set for 10 minutes)
• 1/4 cup corn oil
• 1 cup raisins (optional)
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a baking sheet, or line with parchment paper.
2. In a large bowl, stir together the flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl, whisk together eggs, buttermilk, and corn oil. Make a well in the center of the flour mixture, and pour in the buttermilk mixture. Add the raisins, and stir a few times, just until the ingredients come together into a soft dough. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface, and with floured hands shape dough into a ball. Place the dough on the prepared baking sheet, and cut a large cross in the top with a sharp knife.
3. Place the bread on a middle rack of the preheated oven, and bake until golden brown, 30 to 40 minutes.
I will leave you with some of my favorite Irish prayers and blessings and a wish for a wonderful day, week, month, and life for all of you!
Give me a few friends
who will love me for what I am,
and keep ever burning
before my vagrant steps
the kindly light of hope...
And though I come not within sight
of the castle of my dreams,
teach me to be thankful for life,
and for time's olden memories
that are good and sweet.
And may the evening's twilight
find me gentle still.
May God give you...
For every storm, a rainbow,
For every tear, a smile,
For every care, a promise,
And a blessing in each trial.
For every problem life sends,
A faithful friend to share,
For every sigh, a sweet song,
And an answer for each prayer.
May the frost never afflict your spuds.
May the leaves of your cabbage always be free from worms.
May the crows never pick your haystack.
If you inherit a donkey, may she be in foal.
Love, light, and peace,
Mambo Samantha Corfield

NEED A LITTLE MORE "GREEN"?
Join us for our annual free Wealth and Security ritual to Sobo on March 17th, St. Patrick's Day! Don't worry if you didn't get your letter in for the ritual just yet - we will continue this ritual throughout all of the month of March, starting today on St. Patrick's Day!
Although we offer a convenient ritual kit which you may use to perform the ritual along with our Spellmaker family (or at any other time you desire), we also provide free ritual instructions along with simple alternative options for those who are unable to purchase the kit.
Whether or not you choose to join us in performing the ritual, we invite all who are in need of a little financial help to submit a petition to Sobo asking for his help. Simply write a letter to Sobo, the Lwa (Vodou spirit) of wealth and security, explaining your situation and describing the help you need. (Be realistic! Asking to win the Publisher's Clearing House Sweepstakes is not a request likely to be honored; asking for a raise at work, however, or an unexpected windfall to help you pay some bills, is indeed the kind of request with which Sobo can help you!). Submit your letter to email@example.com. These petitions will be placed upon a special altar, where they will receive the benefit of our group rituals. No purchase is required to submit a petition.
For more information, free ritual instructions, and a link to purchase the ritual kit for $25.00, visit http://www.spellmaker.com/sobo.htm. You can do this ritual at any time, it doesn't have to be in the month of March! :-)
ATTENTION PET LOVERS
We at Spellmaker are animal lovers, too! We understand the fear, worry, and heartbreak one faces when a beloved pet is sick, injured, or otherwise in need of special assistance. If you have a furry, feathered, or scaly loved one in need, let us pray for him or her.
A special email address has been set up for submission of prayer requests on behalf of pets. Simply email your requests to firstname.lastname@example.org, and Sister Bridget and a dedicated team of Khouzhans (preliminary initiates into our Voodoo family) will pray for your beloved animals. This is a completely free service; no purchase is required. If you have friends or family members with pets in need, please pass along this email address so that we may pray for their animals, too.
SPOTLIGHT PRODUCTS OF THE MONTH
Money, Luck, and Job Products
If you're looking to draw in a little Luck O' The Irish this March, you have many options from which to choose! Much of the New Orleans Voodoo tradition centers around changing one's luck for the better, and this heritage is plainly evident in the many Money, Luck and Job products available from Spellmaker.com.
Nine-day spells include Big Money™, Lots-A-Luck™, Get A Job™, and Courthouse Power™; all of these are available as spell kits, as solo castings by Mambo Sam, or as Dual Castings (both the kit and a casting by Mambo Sam).
Candle Magick kits (Green Male, Green Female, and Green 7-Knob Wishing Candles) are simple and easy to use, and do not need to be used for nine consecutive days like the spell kits. Other easy-to-use options include oils (available individually or in purpose-specific 3-packs), gris-gris bags, and Cosmic Voodoo Egg™ kits.
If you like the convenience of oils, but feel you need something with a little more "kick," you may want to try one of our wonderful Bayou Vodou Potions. Crafted from recipes handed down by Mambo Sam's dear auntie, Miss Fannie Bell Fleurette, these wearable potions are powerful stuff -- a little goes a long way. Your editor has recently begun using the Lucky Lee™ potion, and can definitely attest to the amazing results it can bring!
So if you've been feeling down on your luck, or low on the cash flow, spend some time browsing the Spellmaker website, starting with the Money~Luck~Jobs page. You're sure to find something which fits your needs and your schedule.

ORDERING PROCESS CHANGED FOR READINGS
In order to ease bookkeeping chores necessitated by new 2011 tax issues, we have changed the ordering process for readings with Mambo Sam, Sister Bridget, and Sister Candelaria. These services must now be purchased separately from other Spellmaker and Sheer Goddess products. To facilitate this process, the readings pages now feature "Buy Now" buttons which enable immediate checkout through PayPal. You do not need to have a PayPal account to purchase readings; you may pay with any major credit or debit card. Simply click the button for the type of reading you wish to purchase; then, on the Paypal screen which appears, choose either "Log in to my PayPal account" or "Pay with debit or credit card."
911 READINGS NOW AVAILABLE!
In most cases our readings are scheduled within 3 to 5 days. For those with more urgent needs, we now offer 911 readings, which are scheduled within 24 hours. These readings are available in the 30-minute format only, as situations which warrant such urgency generally require more in-depth attention. 911 readings are also subject to scheduling availability: Mambo Sam is available for readings on Mondays, Fridays, and Saturdays; Sister Bridget on Tuesdays through Thursdays and Sundays.
For more information on readings available through the Spellmaker family, visit the Readings and Consultations page at http://www.spellmaker.com/readings.htm.
LWA SPOTLIGHT OF THE MONTH
Although the great serpent Damballah is the Lwa (Vodou spirit) traditionally syncretized with Saint Patrick, Spellmaker also builds on the "Luck of the Irish" and "Wearin' O' the Green" themes of Saint Patrick's day to honor another spirit: the Lwa associated with wealth and security, Sobo.
Sobo is considered a "sky" Lwa and is said to control thunder, lightning, and rain; his brother, Bade, controls the wind. He is known for his bravery as a warrior. As the Lwa of thunder, Sobo is often represented by depictions of another thunder spirit: the Norse god Thor. Because of this great strength and power, he is often called upon by those seeking a sense of security. By calling upon Sobo, one can be assured of the basics needed for survival: food, water, shelter. In modern times, security also means having enough money to obtain such necessities; hence, Sobo is called upon for help with financial difficulties.
The colors preferred by Sobo are white, yellow, and green. His favorite foods are goat meat and mutton, but appropriate offerings to him can include red beans and rice, green foods, and anything traditionally associated with money: cabbage, spinach, lettuce, gold-wrapped chocolate coins, etc.
Sobo asks that those who serve him state their requests sincerely and have faith -- assurance -- that help will be given. The song traditionally sung for him speaks as if one's requests have already been granted: "I have money in my hand, money in my pocket, money in the bank; Sobo, my Lwa, I am assured..." So if you call upon this powerful spirit to help you, picture your goals clearly in your mind, and imagine that they have been met! In return for your faith, Sobo will keep you secure.
