Simbi Makaya is the master magician of the Lwa, very powerful and very protective. He is the conductor of souls, who leads the souls of the dead in all directions bordered by the four magical orients of the cross. He is the Messiah of Legba, the messenger of the sun and communication. Simbi Makaya represents the Spiritual principles of change and protection.

Every Simbi has specific associations - Makaya is known as a great sorcerer. In times of deep trouble, Simbi Makaya is the mercurial magician one can call upon to help facilitate closure to the problem at hand. Simbi Makaya is quite bellicose, talkative and gregarious (different from the usually shy and relaxed Simbi family). Simbi is also a Lwa of communication. Things regarding communication which move at the speed of light are in Simbi's domain (such as nerve impulses, Internet, electricity.) He is associated with crossroads. He is either with you or against you by protecting those who have good relations with him and turning his back on those who do not. He's ferocious toward enemies or toward people against whom he is paid to do magic and his magic is incredibly powerful. Makaya is married to Erzulie Dantor.

His colors are green, red and black or red and white.  His symbols include Makaya's veve emcompasses the equal-armed cross, water snakes, crossroads.  The Saints associated with Simbi Makaya are Moses, the Magi, the 3 Wise Kings.

His offerings include whiskey and black male pigs.
